This is that Wow type of sunset =) You know what I mean if you’ve seen one for yourself. We always hope to see that bright, vibrant pink sky at sunset but a lot of times they sky offers a more subtle type of beauty. Sometimes though when all the the components are present, there is an explosion of color above. That was my driving force behind this brand new painting.

The mountains are starting to be veiled in shadow, though you can still make out a lot of the rocky lines and shapes. The trees are beginning to blend in with the further away mountains but when you look intently, you can still see them standing on their own. But most of all, the sky commands your attention as you stand there realizing how just how lucky you are to be there at this moment, seeing what could be a once-in-a-lifetime moment, not knowing if you will ever see anything like it again or at least not anytime soon. I’ve had those moments and wanted to try my hand at capturing it in paint.

Lotus Flower Installation II

This is the second part of my new lotus installation at the Mystic Valley Sculpture Park near the Great Sand Dunes National Park. These flowers face Blanca Peak to the East. They are opening up toward the light as the sun rises from behind the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

This installation is along the growing Sculpture Trail at the sculpture park that I am building with my life and creative partner Kyle. We are not yet able to open the park to day visitors but if you are planning a trip to the San Luis Valley, you can stay at one of our tiny cabins via AirBnB: https://www.airbnb.com/users/show/409508044

If you’ve been to the Blue Ridge Mountains, you’ve experienced the Magic. I’ve been lucky enough to hike these mountains throughout the various states that they span. I’ve quietly walked past a mama bear with two cubs, hiked the tall peaks, walked the forest floors, admired the endless vistas from the many lookouts along the Blue Ridge Highway and camped along some of the prettiest spots I’ve ever seen there.

I have not been back for over 6 years now but the impressions and memories I’ve taken away with me comeback often and I hope to go back soon. There is enough for a lifetime of exploration, inspiration and just plain wonder at the beauty of this part of the country.

Winter is quickly approaching in many parts of the US. Over the last month, I’ve been watching dustings of snow gather on the nearby mountain peaks here in Colorado. I’ve been feeling the chill in the air. I’ve been daydreaming of admiring the pristine scenes of the beautiful, white Rockies. I’ve also been seeing incredible moon-rises, emerging from behind the mountains. So I sat down in the studio and put these fun impressions together and this little painting emerged. I hope that someone connects with this scene as much as I do or maybe more =)

New Installation at the Sculpture Park

This is my latest art installation at the Mystic Valley Sculpture Park in Mosca, Colorado. It consists of 5 Lotus Flowers which have been a recurring theme in my art over the years. I created all of the ceramic tiles in my studio and complimented them with hand made glass mosaics.
