Lepidoptera a Colorful Butterfly Sculpture by Kasia Polkowska

Come see my latest sculpture installation in Colorado Springs located on the corner of 329 N Tejone Street. It will be on view till May 2025 and is part of the Art on the Streets Public Art Program by Downtown Ventures.

For my art, I take inspiration from what I find most beautiful in my surroundings. I aim to add beauty and interest to new places where the passerby can feel uplifted, inspired and discover something new. With my newest sculpture 'Lepidoptera' I hope to share the wonder of these magnificent insects. The bright colors and fun shapes reflect natures beautiful design. My butterfly is designed to be eye catching, grabbing the viewers and pulling them in for a moment, adding something unique to their day and reminding them of the magic that is all around them. Additionally, butterflies are important pollinators and their life and work is crucial to keeping our natural environments in their current state. If in anyway people can be inspired by my vibrant homage to these small but mighty insects and take even the smallest steps to ensure the well being of these creatures, then that would be an added bonus for my artwork which first aims to be uplifting to the human spirit.

Durango Farmers Market

Following the success of my first ever 2 weekend festival last year "The Durango Autumn Art Festival" I decided to participate in the Durango Farmers Market a few times this season. May 18th was my first market. It was a fun, family experience where I got to share my art with the local community. My sons really enjoyed the community atmosphere and browsing the delicious and beautiful booths while meeting farmers and artisans. They even got to pretend to be tree climbers right behind my booth - what fun!

A Lovely Spring Evening at Our Sculpture Park Project

Imagine a great wide open space in nature where you can sit back, enjoy panoramic mountain views from an expansive valley floor while as well as outdoor art installations? That's something that my life and creative partner Kyle Cunniff and I (Kasia Polkowska) have envisioned and have slowly been working on making a reality for the last 6 years.

We have the views as our 40 acre property looks onto the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the East and the San Juan Mountains to the West. We are in the San Luis Valley, which is the largest Alpine Valley in the word, providing incredible vistas all around. And we have the art as Kyle and I have installed about 50 pieces of art through out the trails we've been adding to our property. We love to stroll around while taking it all in through out the 4 seasons and the different times of day. We enjoy taking a break in front of the artwork and absorbing the magic of the Mystic San Luis Valley - a place like no other.

Autumn Equinox, acrylic on board, 24″x24″ framed , 2022

This is painting inspired by Autumn in the San Juan Mountains of Southern Colorado where I live. When the fall weather conditions are just right – warm sunny days and cool nights – the trees turn the brightest yellows and oranges. From my experience right around the Equinox, many trees reach peak color at higher elevations and blanket the foothills below the high peaks in the warmest hues.

The painting is varnished in satin, has a signed certificate of authenticity on the back as well as a hanging wire and is custom framed in a hardwood, gallery style floating frame in raw oak finished in satin.
