Masters Mystery Art Show

This is one of my first mosaics inspired by agateswhich are a microcrystalline variety of quartz commonly found in volcanic rocks. I've made this piece titled "Orange Dreamscape" for theMastersMystery Art Show 2008, a benefit fundraiser for the MFA program at Florida International University in Miamai.

Before I started working in the mosaic medium, I was used to working on medium to large scale paintings and drawings.  I took this size limitation as a challenge.  Would I be able to keep the composition interesting? Iwas very happy with the outcome of my small mosaic.  I decided to make asimilar piece but a little larger.   The slightly larger size allowed me to make a more intricate design.  The mosaic is right below.
