I live in the San Juan Mountains in Colorado. The pristine wilderness of these mountains is awe inspiring anytime of the year. But in the Winter, when the snow blankets these Rocky Mountains, the scenery is Mystical. The mountains look immaculate, untouched, frigid yet breathtakingly beautiful and full of mystery. The skies here are filled with what seems like an infinite numbers of stars shinning brightly on a clear night.

With my painting, I wanted to share the type of enchantment that you get filled with in childhood when you see something spectacular. Here in Colorado the scenery can bring an adult back to that place back in time when the world seemed full of Magic and Mystery. All of that is still here, tucked away in the mountains.

Above, I am hiking in the Snowy Rockies while backpacking along the 4Pass Loop. Its times like these that have revealed to me the pristine scenery that inspired my painting which was a magnificent journey in itself. Take a look a the few photos below that offer a glimpse into how the painting came to be.

Process - from an intricate pencil sketch to a burst of color in the under painting to a refined image with thousands of intricate lines and details.

Below are fun details for all the lovers of Blue, of Night Skies, of Snowy Mountains, of Painting and Drawing and Everything Else you see here, including the Deep Sea in the the Starry Night! While I painted the night sky, I bean to see how its unexplored depth paralleled our deep seas. The world above and below become one for me in some ways while I explored the cosmos in this large painting.

With this Wintry scene, I set out to create a landscape that can awaken a sense of enchantment that we experience in childhood. As we grow older, oftentimes the realities of life and/or some of the struggles we encounter along the way but hopefully conquer, can close the door to that part of ourselves but also hopefully not forever.

I find that spending time in the outdoors can reawaken that sense of magic that is so good for our spirit. Away from the hustle and bustle, deep in the wilderness or even just on the edge of - if we keep our eyes open - there are many opportunities for brand new experiences that inspire joy and contentment. The night sky, among the mysterious, might mountains is one encounter with nature that I can never get enough of. When my 5 year old son told me this was his favorite painting, I knew I achieved my goal with it, maybe that is why I love it so much and hope that it lands in a home where it can be loved as much as my family loves it. https://www.kasiapolkowskashop.com/product/winters-mountain-magic/
