Bloom I ~ Sculpture Installation for the 2025 Alamosa Artscape

 

My sculpture Bloom I is installed in Alamosa on State Street and Main Street. It will be here till September 2026 as part of the City's annual outdoor art exhibit.

A Lovely Spring Evening at Our Sculpture Park Project

Imagine a great wide open space in nature where you can sit back, enjoy panoramic mountain views from an expansive valley floor while as well as outdoor art installations? That's something that my life and creative partner Kyle Cunniff and I (Kasia Polkowska) have envisioned and have slowly been working on making a reality for the last 6 years. 

We have the views as our 40 acre property looks onto the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the East and the San Juan Mountains to the West. We are in the San Luis Valley, which is the largest Alpine Valley in the word, providing incredible vistas all around. And we have the art as Kyle and I have installed about 50 pieces of art through out the trails we've been adding to our property. We love to stroll around while taking it all in through out the 4 seasons and the different times of day. We enjoy taking a break in front of the artwork and absorbing the magic of the Mystic San Luis Valley - a place like no other.

 

 

 

 

American Gothic Bunny Style

 

My take on the ‘American Gothic’ bunny style of course while emulating a 5 year old Kasia as an artist   

This is my light hearted take on Grant Wood's 'American Gothic' painting from 1930. Because the sculpture is installed in rural Mosca, Colorado where jack rabbits abound, I thought a rabbit theme for this interpretation would be fun and appropriate.

We recently relocated these from them marking an old campsite where we used to have a vintage camper we remodeled a few years back. Below is a photo we took back in 2019 at the initial installation  site with me holding my young son Ethan. We somewhat did a quick recreation of that photo now in 2024 with my holding a much larger 6.5 year old Ethan =)

Moving the sculpture with the permanently attached concrete/steal pedestal was not an easy task for Kyle and I but apprehensively, we moved about a 100m via a hand truck ... Thank you Kyle for always giving it a try!

Now they are along our colorful sculpture trail where we enjoy walking around, taking in the awe inspiring views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. I love looking in all directions, taking a seat and just marveling at the beauty of the San Luis Valley.

Our assistants are often either lending a hand or making sure that for each step we take forward, we go back two lol Either way, they are usually looking very cute while up to whatever mischief they are up to. Here Ethan convinced Wesley that they could earn candy by logging this cart full of stones for me - thanks boy!

The bunnies love their new location and even get to peek through the nearby feathers   

 

This is a personal art project between Colorado artists Kasia Polkowska and Kyle Cunniff who have been working on it since 2018. It is located on a 40 acre private property in the San Luis Valley and is not currently open to the public. The artists do not have the means to open up the project to the public but are open to investors/patrons who would like to support the grass roots effort and make it possible to make that dream a possibility. Bloom III Coming to Carbondale, Colorado

My new sculpture Bloom III has been accepted to the 2023/24 Art Around Town in Carbondale, Colorado.  It is part of my growing sculpture series 'Bloom' which is rooted in the intricate folk art of paper cutting from Poland, my place of birth. With each of my flowers,  I want to share the wonder that these forms inspire in me, hoping that each one can do the same for others. The bright colors and fun, bulbous shapes are made to be eye catching, grabbing the viewer and pulling them in for a moment, adding something unique to their day out on the town.  With all my sculpture I aim to add beauty and interest to new places where the passerby can feel uplifted, inspired and discover something new.

 

I've participated in Carbondale's outdoor art a couple of times in the past. Below are two of my other sculptures that have been displayed in the colorful, eclectic mountain town.  

Johna-Mai won the People's Choice Award during the 2018-19 exhibit. It was installed infront of the Lauchpad - a space for the arts. Then the following year, my sculpture Reflection of Inner-self was displayed in front of the Carbondale Public Library. 

3rd Place Winner for Bloom Sculpture

The Art 2C on Havana selection committee has chosen my sculpture titled “Bloom” as the 3^rd Place Winner for the 2022-2024 public art exhibition On Havana Street!  I was told that " “Bloom” is so bright and beautiful on the pad in front of Dickey’s BBQ on Main Street at the Gardens On Havana Shopping Center, 10551 E Garden Dr, Aurora, CO 80012." Seen above is shot of how the sculpture is installed for the 2 year program.
